Obituary: Ira Koger

Bob Snell | 7/1/2004

ATLANTIC BEACH -- Ira Koger, credited with creating the suburban office park, died May 29 at age 91. His Koger Properties' portfolio includes more than 300 buildings.

At age 21, Koger became the youngest member of the House of Representatives in South Carolina, his home state. He was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame in 1989.

In 1995, Koger was indicted on tax evasion charges, but a judge ruled he was unable to stand trial because he suffered from sleep apnea.

Koger was a major contributor to the arts in South Carolina and the Jacksonville area, where he lived.
